Ever wonder what inspired an artwork?
Life in the City - Just Passing Through, paintings 1 & 2.
During one of my many trips to London, I had arranged to visit my brother who lives on the Kent coast. I had walked from Battersea Rise to Victoria station' arrived far too early for my train and was able to sit and quietly observe the behaviours of fellow travellers. It occurred to me that each time I visited, I reverted back into what I call 'London Mode'. Born and breed in London, I spent most of my childhood and young adult life blending seamlessly into the crowd. It wasn't until I moved to the countryside that I realised that people actually made eye contact and passed pleasantries. It was because of this that I began to observe how crowds of people move, sometimes at great speed, mostly looking at the floor or their phones as well without making physical contact. It struck me as an amazing feat. People often moved together, as if they were travelling on the same current on a river, then they would split and follow another route, often in the same direction as another group. No one seemed to be fighting against the tide. The first lines painted represented the Thames. The other groups of lines represent the movement in and around the city.
